These are the sites of the Westboro Baptist Church, better known as "God
Hates Fags" and "God Hates America", owned by Fred Phelps. This site and church
participants seems to be pretty badly unhinged.

I don’t even need to say anything…I’ll just let you read their
feelings/beliefs in their own words (however I did correct their spelling
errors, I just couldn’t stand it):

"Thank God for IEDs killing American soldiers in strange lands every day.
WBC rejoices every time the Lord God in His vengeance kills or maims an American
soldier with an Improvised Explosive Device (IED). ‘The righteous shall rejoice
when he seeth the vengeance: he shall wash his feet in the blood of the wicked’
(Ps. 58:10)."

"The only true Jews are Christians. The rest of the people who claim to be Jews

And I thought my last post was about something bizarre!

This one floated past me today.

I sometimes find myself having a small chuckle at web sites which really should
appall and offend me. The usual reason for this is that something is so
outrageous that the site starts to look like parody. These sites are
actually less dangerous than the ones which present bigotry or lies in a calm,
dispassionate manner, but they often attract a lot of attention.

Private Web Hosting touts themselves as a "a private membership organization
for straight, white, non-jews."

I guess if you can have adult web hosting…why not this?

While I’m all for ‘freedom of speech’ this is definitely a hate-mongering
website. Please understand…I believe in and support free speech and
detest political correctness, however we must also work to remove
this kind of hate-mongering. After all, even an adult host doesn’t
dissuade fetish.

Also, if this is something they’re proud of why don’t they promote the sites
they host?

Star Wars Episode III an Anti Bush movie?!?!?

You’re KIDDING right?!?!?!?!?!?

What is WRONG with these people?!?!?

The best science fiction stories are traditionally stories based on concrete
everyday issues (yes, even political issues) that are abstracted by
transplanting them into some alien or future context which allows us to ponder
questions without the normal unnecessary societal "baggage" (like party
affiliations, race, religious beliefs, etc…).

Simply…because of this "separation from reality," we can easily read anything
we want into a saga like this. Shall I go over the "obvious" references to
the bible I saw for you?

MAYBE the reason liberals see it as an "anti-bush" diatribe is a) their own
ignorance of the genre OR more likely b) their own wallowing guilt from loosing
the last election where they believed they would easily win (which is the what
most liberals think….they know the world when they do not).

Just because a few lines in a movie are similar to lines used by the current politico in
real life does not mean it’s directly related. Especially when the lines
are things like Anakin saying to Obi Wan "you’re either with me or an enemy of
me."

Using that logic, Shakespear’s Othello is ALSO an "Anti-Bush" tale…he was just
ahead of his time (maybe he knew Nostradamus).

<sigh>

If you do not like the person voted into office, then help campaign to have him
removed or even better……VOTE!!!!!

Brutal? Not necessarily…..

It’s best if you read the situation for yourself then read my thoughts:

Originally I thought it was brutal, but after rereading his BLOG, I don’t think so anymore.

It’s simple. He (as a contractor) ridiculed M$. It’d be like you working for Sears wearing an J.C. Penny’s shirt to a TV interview about working at Sears. Wudi (our old nickname for him) should have known better. These guys have more lawyers then Sun Microsystems!

He might have just as well sprayed "windows sucks, get a mac" on a wall somewhere on the campus.

Should they have had him removed, I don’t think so. Unfortunately, most contractors have a “for the good of <name your firm>” clause that allows the contracting firm to remove any contractor that is disruptive to the organization (and usually
without giving a reason).

As one of our mutual friends said….

What I thought was brutal was that it’s a shame. Yah, Wudi should have known better, but he’s never worked for a company of that size. Innocence and naivety should be given some weight. He’ll never do it again, and knowing him, this has made him a better person.

I particularly like the statement one guy made, that he’s better off because he will land a new job, and he’s got a cool story.

Still a shame that wudi’s out of work. Bummer.

My only contention with M$ is that if it were that serious, they should have demanded he take the site down.

I still stand beside Wudi, no doubt there. He’ll come throught this on top….

The ‘Confused’ Protester

OLYMPIA — A man spent hours chained to the wrong building Tuesday in an ill-planned effort to protest war with Iraq, police said. Jody Mason padlocked himself to an entrance of the Washington State Grange building at 924 Capitol Way S., thinking it was a sub-office of the U.S. Department of Energy.

Grange employees found him about 11:45 a.m. Tuesday and asked what he was doing.

He told employees he’d chained himself to the building in civil disobedience Monday night after listening to President Bush’s televised ultimatum to
Saddam Hussein.

Mason padlocked one end of the chain around his neck and the other to a door, which opens to a bottom-floor office. He told onlookers he was protesting Bush’s foreign and domestic policies. He had affixed a sign to
the building reading, “Reduce Deficit.”

Grange employees explained that he was at the wrong building. The Grange is a nonprofit, nonpartisan group that advocates for residents in rural areas.

“I don’t think that’s ever happened before,” said Larry Clark, Grange communications director.

No charges

Police officers used heavy-duty bolt cutters to free Mason.

“He asked for help because he didn’t have the key,” Olympia police Cmdr. Steve Nelson said.

Mason wasn’t arrested and won’t face any charges. Officers let him go and didn’t take his name, Nelson said.

“He was our first protester since President Bush’s speech,” Nelson said.

Mason, who identified himself to a photographer, said he had looked up the Department of Energy in the phone book. The phone book, under the Department
of Energy, lists a Bonneville Power Administration Office at 924 Capitol Way S.

Verizon Attempts to Delay Revealing Downloader to RIAA

The back and forth volley between the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and Verizon appears to be continuing. Friday, the RIAA made attempts to block Verizons motion to delay revealing the name of one of its users suspected of downloading copyrighted material over the Internet until the appeal can be heard.

Now it is difficult to argue with the RIAA’s stance. A crime is being committed, and Verizon is blocking attempts to find theÃ‚ culprit. This does overlook one very large detail, however. The RIAA seems to think that the only use for the Internet is to steal all of their music. I mean, what else could anyone possibly be using it for? And as such, it is the RIAA’s right to know every transaction from every user across the Internet, right?!? Verizon, thankfully, is trying to protect our rights to privacy.

While some people may be using some of their bandwidth to download music, they are also using it to write to old friends, meet new friends, research topics of interest, or even view pornographic material…<GASP>. And while there may be some moral objections, that is still legal (and none of that is the RIAA’s business). And what about users who are downloading MP3′s of music that they already own on a vinyl record, tape, or CD, and just find it more convenient to download it than to make their own MP3? Isn’t that fair use? And how will the RIAA tell the difference?!? The traffic all looks the same, regardless of the user’s intentions.

RIAA Fights Verizon Bid to Delay Naming Downloader

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) on Friday opposed Verizon Communications request for a stay on a judge’s recent order requiring Verizon to turn over the name of a customer suspected of downloading songs on the Web.

Last week, Verizon filed a motion for a stay on the order until the company’s appeal of the decision could be heard.

Verizon was not available to comment late Friday.

U.S. District Judge John Bates in late January said Verizon must cooperate with recording industry efforts to track down online song swappers, rejecting the telecommunications giant’s assertion that such a move would violate customer privacy and turn it into an online copyright cop.

“There is no right to anonymously commit crimes. No one, including Verizon, disputes that its users are downloading and disseminating copyrighted works in violation of the law. Individuals who infringe music on P2P networks are not engaged in private conduct; they are agreeing to freely share files on their hard drives with millions of other users on a public network,” said Matthew Oppenheim, Senior Vice President, Business and Legal Affairs, RIAA, said after the group filed briefs opposing Verizon’s request for a stay.

The RIAA represents the five largest recording companies: AOL Time Warner Inc.’s Warner Music; Sony Corp.’s Sony Music; Bertelsmann AG’s BMG; Vivendi Universal’s Universal Music Group; and EMI Group Plc.
