I learned later that morning that for us Alaskans, the line of succession actually goes from our Governor and Lt. Governor to Talis Colbert, Alaska’s Attorney General (then to John Harris).
That has had me wondering ever since about that choice.
Why would third in line be someone who has never been elected and has no political experience?
I mean…is there no one from the Senate or House able to run in the Governor’s stead? It makes for a bad impression of our elected state officials – especially in light of the ongoing ethics issues.
We would have a special election, regardless, so why not put someone other than an “administrator” in the big chair?
