I’ll Be At The Jerry Lewis Telethon…

And I hope you will be willing to give during the telethon.

I help because when I meet these wonderful children, I see children who are not angry or hampered by their affliction. They are full of spirit, life and enjoy everything that all children do.

They were the people who taught me that a wheelchair is an enabler rather than a detractor.

At MDA summer camp the children become for a week, just another kid. “When everyone is the same no one is special.” These children are able to play soccer, ride in boats, ride horses, get rides in motorcycles (sidecars), and classic cars. It’s a fun time for everyone involved (and yes, pranks abound like every other camp).

The other side of camp is the break for the family. The child requires constant care and for that week they get a break. Please understand, none of the parents are upset (and some even feel guilty during the break), but imagine that for only one week a year you are able to sleep in late, go out to a resturant as a couple, etc.

These children need our help to cure the neuromuscular diseases that cut their lives so short.

So you know…MDA’s programs are funded almost entirely by individual private contributors. MDA seeks no government grants, United Way funding or fees from those it serves. It’s truly from contributions for people like you and me.
