Everyone concentrates on the problems we’re having in this country lately; illegal immigration, hurricane recovery, alligators attacking people in Florida.
Not me. I concentrate on solutions for the problems. It’s a win-win situation.
+ Dig a moat the length of the Mexican border.
+ Send the dirt to New Orleans to raise the level of the levies.
+ Put the Florida alligators in the moat along the Mexican border.
As in I had faith they would again not accomplish anything regarding the war in Iraq. Nothing like my tax dollars going to shit the bed. If you take the average salary of a US Senator ($165, 200.00 a year) and break it into an hourly salary they make $79.42 an hour (if they worked a normal 40 hour work week). If this would be considered overtime – and who knows if it’s not, since they vote on their own salaries – and they got time and a half they would be paid $119.15 an hour!!!!! Especially so that nothing would come of it.
I’m not sure what these “new and improved” democrats were thinking…but I did not see anything coming of this except to galvanize that they are against the war, which I believe, is partially what got most of them elected.
So…instead of showing their voters that they have done something about this, they have shown that they are as useful in changing the direction of a world leader as the United Nations.
Way to go Senators!
Maybe it’s because I work hard to be in tune with what’s going on in the world and politics….maybe it’s because I watch varying TV programs or read more than my local newspaper that I was able to have complete confidence that this was a bigger fiasco than DARPAs “FutureMAP” (an online futures market designed to predict assassinations and bombings by encouraging investor speculation in such crimes).
Whatever the reason, I just KNEW in my heart-of-hearts that this was a bust. I’m also guessing that just about ANYONE I know would agree with me.
I’d love to see what this cost the government (i.e. the cots placed outside the Senate, additional staffing & resources).
To Amy Polumbo, Miss New Jersey, I wanted to say bravofor your courage in revealing the photos that the blackmailer was using.
Firstly, after seeing the photos this morning on the Today show, I can say that they are not the “incriminating” photos that caused Vanessa Williams to loose her crown or Tara Conner to have to go to rehab.
These are, in this writer’s humble opinion, pictures of a charming youth.
Remember, that while you are embarrassed you had to share the photos with millions of viewers like myself, you can be proud that the majority of us will simply wonder what the fuss is about.
Consider that in today’s world of “in and out of jail” celebrities and political fall guys, this incident should be a blip on the world scene.
Also, remember we’re at war and that gets such a mediocre mention in the news (it’s like the local crime report anymore and in many instances the local crime report GETS BETTER PLAY), I fully expect your situation to last longer on blogs like this than in the media.
Miss Polumbo, I will also not post the picture nor a link to them – not for any other reason than I have more incriminating pictures in my photo albums of my youth making your photos actually…boring.
So the effort to find and post the link or download to my site to add to the article is simply a waste.
To the pageant officials, I fully expect you to have the same level of incredulity in these photos being damaging to Miss New Jersey.
It’s right up there with the John Edwards $300.00 haircut – which, by the by, in no way affected my decision to not vote for his dumb ass!
To my fellow citizens, if this is truly a factor to you in this world spiraling out of control – then just find a hole to live in SHUT THE FUCK UP and just watch TV and let the rest of us alone.
The amount of time spent on this ridiculous issue is just that. Here is an example of the continued ridiculousnesses where the comments, retractions, and backpedaling is almost a laughable as the original article.
Firstly, the fact that Fred is a powerful man (in Politics & Media) may play into his marriage – both the failed and second – but isn’t that a really a presumption in that regard? We been seeing a ton of disparate age marriages in good ol’ Hollywood as well as the power elite, so why is Fred different since he walks in both worlds?
I mean if truth be told with all the political screw ups: bad checks, drug use, sex scandals and the flat out ass-fucking of the constitution…it would be refreshing to have the president have a trophy wife! Think about the benefits to American society:
+Sex with a hot wife – no extramarital affairs
+Like most of us men with a good looking woman on their arm he’ll have no need to impress…he’s got it already – wars, etc. are no longer needed to flaunt his manhood.
+If she were a TRUE trophy wife (i.e. just stood around and looked good), there would be no family dominance struggles – a la Clinton/Bush.
+Americans would tune in to see the president more if the “hot wife” was there so maybe more Americans would understand their political landscape (even peripherally would be better than it is now).
We’d have (hopefully) another Jackie Kennedy showing us the Van Buren china on TV.
Seriously…before you talk about his wife, a simple check would tell you she’s actually quite savvy politically herself: she’s degreed in political theory, worked as a political media consultant for a DC law firm as well as was with the Senate Republican Conference and the Republican National Committee (it’s how she met Fred). She is also said to be very involved with Fred’s political activities is is reputed to be the reason he has decided to run for POTUS.
Maybe one should consider that it’s reversed and it’s Jerry Kehn-Thompson with a trophy husband…similar to (in this writer’s humble opinion) another presidential candidate with a REAL trophy spouse!
I’ve been pretty much keeping quite because I didn’t want to get into the various “get out of jail” ploys being asserted by the super elite, nor the various diatribes about who can say what to whom specifically about whom.
I also saw no reason to speak to ridiculous things like a woman suing for rights to embryos fertilized from a man she does not want anything to do with!
We, as a society, seem to have gone off the deep end especially in the courts with terrifying results. Latest example, the appeal by the Bush Administration on the ruling that non-citizens have no rights in the United States by bastardizing the 14th Amendment recently (supposedly to fix the Dred Scott dilemma).
Unfortunately, nobody seems to care this is happening and even agree with the administration’s logic that since these people weren’t technically citizens, this somehow keeps the rest of us somehow safe from terrorism! However, I recall some life changing words I had to say in a school play where I played the Declaration of Independence:
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.â€â€That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed,â€â€That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.”
Why did our illustrious leaders decide that fundamental rights are actually fundamental citizen rights? This kind of nationalistic attitude is nothing but racism in disguise. If non-citizens are undeserving of fundamental human rights, then so are we all.
