I really wonder what it takes to be a TV or radio personality. It seems intelligence is not a primary requirement. I’m listening to the 100.5 KBFX morning show where Woody & Wilcox are discussing the “Three Name Rule” for psycho killers (i.e. you’re a psycho murderer if you have three names).
Their discussion was actually catching my attention till they came up with their “exceptions”:
Ted Bundy
Philip Seymour Hoffman
Keshia Knight-Pullman
Rebecca Romaijn-Stamos
The last two should strike you as odd as it did me. The rule applies to first middle and last name, not first and two last names (God forbid that these guys were dumb enough to think that Knight and Romaijn are middle names?!?!?).
So…why are killers normally defined by their full names? It is a police tactic to distinguish the killer from similar named people (as in how many men named John Karr are out there in the world)?
We are, after all, a lawsuit happy nation so how easy is it to sue law enforcement/media for undue harm caused by your name matching some nationally known killer? It would be very easy to find some sleazy lawyer up to the task of instigating the litigation for $$$ and most big corporations would rather simply settle out of court than fight (how many lawsuits [most notably being Terri Carlin suing on behalf of all Americans] came out against the networks after Janet Jackson flashed the nation at the super bowl?).
But I digress….
How many people are now looking at, say, Hillary Rodham-Clinton because of what these idiots said?
There are some who are saying “you’re too harsh Karl…let it go.” Sorry…I can’t. It’s like the people who look at Bill Clinton and tell me that the Monica Lewinsky scandal was noting. It was someting.
We did not “elect” Bill Clinton for his sexual prowess so I didn’t care about his cheating on his wife. However we did elect him to be our leader and represent the best qualities of our nation to which he failed. The leader of the most powerful nation on earth on all channels crying and begging forgiveness about a blowjob made us look so STRONG to the rest of the world.
Maybe that (compounded with our ties to Israel) makes us so hated by radical Islamic’s as we did noting to an adulterer and allowed him to continue to lead our nation?
I know…I’m such a nut job for thinking that way.
If TV and radio personalities are to be looked at as intelligent and insightful people then we need to have intelligent and insightful people in those positions.
With the recent conflict in the Middle East, talk of Armageddon/End times has started to surface amongst friends, family and co-workers. I’d like to preface with this passage from the Bible:
“But of that day and hour knoweth no one, not even the angels of heaven, neither the Son, but the Father only.” – Matthew 24:36
Of course, that doesn’t stop some folks from trying to guess whether the day and hour are coming closer.
From my way of thinking, time passes slowly from God the Father’s perspective (“But forget not this one thing, beloved, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.” – 2 Peter 3:8). Only from this perspective should we think this period in history will pass in one day. Jesus’ point was this: No man, nor anyone measuring time from man’s perspective, should think that this period is 1 day long. Jesus’ isn’t just going to show up one day. This period is much, much longer (basically day-for-a-year repetition says this period is about 13,000 days long). That is the reason that no man knows the day or hour as we (mankind) can’t measure this period in history as one day.
In our own history we have had several false alerts to the end times as the Bible calls it (there is a list of course on the internet: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unfulfilled_historical_predictions_by_Christians). Did you know that in the early 1900s many believed that chain stores – specifically F.W. Woolworth & Co. – to be a
sign of the Beast and Armageddon?
Did you also know that there is a depiction of the Beast as well as the End Times in the Koran (Islam) and Talmud (Jewish)? Makes you wonder if the signs are the same since Christians/Jews/Islam actually worship the SAME GOD.
However, from a NON-RELIGIOUS perspective this site: Life After the Oil Crash dolls out the end of civilization (hence the end of the world as we know it) using economic factors and our dwindling oil supply worldwide.
So, if you’re interested in keeping up on the latest “Rapture Index” Tom Strandberg and Terry James have created a website to keep you informed.
The Rapture Index, which touts itself as “The prophetic speedometer of end-time activity” has two functions: one is to factor together a number of related end time components into a cohesive indicator, and the other is to standardize those components to eliminate the wide variance that currently exists with prophecy reporting.
The Rapture Index is by no means meant to predict the rapture (thank goodness), however, the index is designed to measure the type of activity that could act as a precursor to the rapture.
You could say the Rapture index is the NASDAQ of end time activity. The higher the number, the faster were moving towards the occurrence of pre-tribulation rapture.
Or, maybe not. Given the inordinate present predictions and indications of the End Times for the past, oh, two thousand years or so this sits slightly more towards the “Tin Foil Hat” section. Okay…maybe more than a slightly.
For what its worth, though were in the highest Fasten your seat belts level right now (though Id think folks wanting to be in the Rapture wouldnt want their seat belts holding them down), were better off at 157 than we were in 2001 (even at its low point), though not as unrapturous as in 1993 (when the index was at 53).
So what is my point to all this?
Simple….
We have had doomsday prophets before and AFTER Jesus.
Am I worried? Sure. To the point of getting ready for something that, according to the Bible, only God the Father knows? No. As Charles Schultz (creator of the Peanuts) would say: “Don’t worry about the world coming to an end today. It’s already tomorrow in Australia.”
Come out & see the planes fly tomorrow at Arctic Thunder. Do this in honor of the lost crew. We will be honoring them...you should too. http://twitter.com/hogbiker4 mins ago
