I thought that with such a bucket load of evidence the lawyers would sue and Sony would quickly backpedal. Obviously I was wrong on this and the extent is out there with other companies using it as well.
After the announcement things like the tale of a World of Warcraft Hack come out that use the malware to bypass the anti cheating schemes. In the meantime, First 4 Internet refutes the claims this is malware, but Mark Russinovich
retorts and shows more evidence to the contrary.
In the midst of the uproar (especially as it draws more media attentions), the lawyers start to frenzy to the tune of lawsuits.
Sony decides to backpedal especially after Micro$oft determines it’s malware so Sony comes out with “patch”
to remove cloaked software, however it’s found it doesn’t work (more here)!
Now…the damage is done there are now viruses being written to exploit the software.
Maybe “The Constant Gardener” wasn’t too far off with the tagline “The Conspiracy is Global”
