He was called many things….
King Leer, Master of sexploitation, King of the nudies you name it.
You younger people probably have no clue who I’m talking about, but for those
who do, we have lost one of the greatest pioneering film makers in the history
of cinema. Russ Meyer dared what many would not and made the Big Tit Stag Film a
reality. The big tits still exist, but it’s a sad day for all of us who
loved Russ Meyer.
I grew up to his films and they are so distinct versus the later films and
hard core porn. Like Ron Raffaelli, his films were stunning and well
crafted. They had plots, used lighting and real filming techniques.
If it wasn’t for him there would be no nude scenes, no simulated sex scenes, and
no dirty raunchy fun in the movies today.
If you haven’t heard of him I strongly suggest you all watch Faster
Pussycat Kill! Kill! or at least Beyond the Valley of the Dolls.
both classics. You can visit his site
http://rmfilms.com to purchase his films. Since the company was his I
had the rare pleasure of talking to him directly when ordering his latest
conversion to DVD Beneath The Valley of the Ultravixens, my
personal favorite of his films.
Here’s what his good friend Roger Ebert had to say about him, seeing as how Russ
gave Roger his big break. They even collaborated on the film Beyond the
Valley of the Dolls (Ebert was the screenwriter):

Normally I can walk away from shit like this, but this one still has me riled up.
Yesterday our HOG chapter did phone duty for the MDA telethon, it was a lot of fun! With the weather being nice this year, we were asked to ride up on our bikes to hand in our MDA check. Needless to say we were even more stoked!
So we get four bikes to do a ‘parade style’ (bikes riding side-by-side) roll up to the MC where we will present our check to MDA.
So you get an idea….the KTUU/MDA telethon operation is BIG! It takes up most of the banquet floor it’s on as well as the back of the Millennium hotel with their big news van and broadcast equipment.
So they place us where they want us to ride up. We do a couple of run troughs to get timing/camera angles, etc.
All that’s left is to have us do the live shot.
Now to be honest, we are taking up the service road behind the hotel to do this. It’s a gravel dead end along Lake Spenard that ends at the hotel’s main restaurant. However it’s just @8am on Labor day so traffic is…well…non existent.
While we’re waiting to go live a car comes up behind us. We move out of it’s way as we are blocking the road and all.
Then the vehicle stops…partly blocking the road. We ask the drive if he could move the vehicle as we are doing camera work for the MDA Telethon.
We get a resounding "NO! This is where I park my vehicle for my business."
We yell, "thanks for supporting MDA!" at which he yells back "I always do for thirty years!" (whatever the hell that means).
We again tell the man that we are here for a short time to do a broadcast for MDA. We get told this is state property, and he has EVERY right to be there.
Unfortunately one of our guys gets agitated and lets the guy know he’s an asshole.
The guy gets more belligerent and says he’s going to call the cops for us blocking the road.
Our guy tells him to call the cops!
He goes into his office (hut actually) and calls the cops. We wait for the queue from KTUU and decide if the cops do show….we can have them follow us to the camera as we’re not going to screw up the live shot!
He comes out and yells "it’s you choice!" and proceeds to place a sign on the road also blocking our way.
However, we’re on motorcycles and we’re maneuverable….MU HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
We get the signal, we ride, get past his obstacles and do the live presentation. No glitches, the shot goes well and we present the check for $38,996 to support MDA. We laughingly tell the crew and MC know what happened.
We turn around and ride out and the guy is trying to wave us down. At this point we blow by him.
Unfortunately, the cops never arrived. Would have been fun to tell our side of the story.
We let MDA know as well but it would have been unprofessional to say something during the telethon. HOWEVER on my site I can say what I want:
I’d user more explicative language, but my mother visits this site.
