The truth about those “Iraqi playing cards”

Wow…who’d have thought that the Iraqi playing cards all over eBay and being SPAMmed to us were fakes ? No one has been issued the cards and there are a reported 2,875 “Iraq’s Most Wanted” playing card decks for sale on eBay right now.

Stars & Stripes reported last week, in Buyers Beware: The real Iraq ‘most wanted’ cards are still awaiting distribution, “The troops don’t have the cards yet.” according to Pentagon spokeswoman Megan Fox.

So, print your own cards…..

Slowdown on postings from Karl

As everyone knows (or should know) bike riding season has started in Alaska. Starting this weekend is the first of the Saturday Group Rides and next Wednesday begins our famous WNDC or ‘Wednesday Night Dinner Cruise’ through the summer (these ride events are put on by our local HOG – ‘Harley Owner’s Group’ Chapter www.hogalaska.com)

Posts will be slow coming and sporadic (like it’s not already – LOL).

Of course, pictures from my rides will be up in the gallery section of my biker site, www.hogbiker.com sometime after I’m back .

Topic Changes

Just letting everyone know that I’ve added in new categories for the site. They are (in no particular order) Guns/Gun Control, War..then & now, Weird, Political Correctness, Supporting our Troops, Freedom Abuse and Economics/Labor.

Since the last election, there have been more people getting actively involved in politics and world events.

So in light of this (and other things) I’ve added some more relevant topics.

If nothing else, the 2000 Presidential election has gotten more Americans to be proactive and discuss relevant issues that effect us. Now all that’s left is to get them to go out and vote!

I’ve also deleted some topics as well (like Xmas…no need for things like a “seasonal” topic).

Compelling letter from Navy Serviceman regarding Anti-war Protesting

Dear Mom,

It’s really your decision to march if you want to or not. You are the one who has to decide if what we are doing out here is right or not. My opinion is not yours.

I do, however, have things I would like for you and Grandma and everyone else at home to know.

I am a United States soldier. I was sworn to defend my country against all enemies, foreign and domestic. People may not agree with the things we are ordered to do. I would like to address those people by telling them that terrorism is not only a threat to us as Americans, but to many other innocent people in the world.

What type of country would we be if we didn’t defend the rights and freedoms of others, not because they’re Americans, but how about just because they’re human?

We live in a country where people feel secure with their daily lives. They do business like usual and don’t worry about the thought of terrorism actually happening to them.

The people of 9-11 thought the same thing. We now know that it can happen to anyone at any time.

Yet as Americans we’re afraid of losing our soldiers to defend our security. I can only speak for myself when I say that my life is an easy expense to ensure that my family and friends can live in peace.

I strongly believe in what we are doing and wish you were here to see for yourselves the honor and privilege that American soldiers aboard this ship are feeling, knowing that we are going to be a part of something so strong and so meaningful to the safety of our loved ones. Then you would know what this potential war is about.

We will stand tall in front of terrorism and defeat it. We as soldiers are not afraid of what may happen. We are only afraid of Americans not being able to understand why we are here.

I ask for your courage as Americans to be strong for us; I ask for your understanding in what we believe is right. I ask for your support in what we are sworn to do: defend our country and the life of all.

We will succeed in our task and will end the threat of terrorism in our back yard. We will also end the threat of terrorism in our neighbors’.

We have to remind ourselves of what this country stands for: life, liberty and justice for all. In order to maintain those rights we have to stop the threat of terrorism.

I am proud to be here. I will be coming home, but not until I know that it’s going to be safe for all Americans and for everyone I love.

My family is first. My country is where they live. I will defend it.

P.S. Mom, please send this to everyone who has a hard time understanding why we are here. Ask the paper to put what I’ve said in a column so that others will know why we are here and what we are here for.

I love you all and will be home soon. I left my address so that if anyone feels like writing to let me know how they feel, they can.

Spring Ahead for Safety

For those who forgot, yesterday was Daylight Savings Time. You were supposed to set your clocks an hour ahead (spring forward/fall back). Daylight Saving Time begins for most of the United
States
at 2 a.m. on the first Sunday of April. Time reverts to standard time at 2 a.m. on the last Sunday of October. In the U.S., each time zone switches at
a different time.

In the European Union, Summer Time begins and ends at 1 am Universal Time (Greenwich Mean Time). It starts the last Sunday in March, and ends the last Sunday in October. In the EU, all time zones change at the same moment.

See more information about elsewhere
in the world byclicking here.

So…when setting our clocks ahead in
the Spring it is a good time to check a number of safety items, including:

  • Check/replace smoke alarm batteries.
  • Check/replace batteries in emergency
flashlights and battery powered emergency-use radios.
  • Check/replace emergency food and water
    supplies.

Weather module fixed!

Sometimes I just DO NOT understand Micro$oft!!!!

MSNBC decided to change their weather formatting again so the weather information and graphics were failing.

I was able to fix the code (utilizing the Dave Loutrel “Asprin and Booze” method) but had to delete the module and tables from the database.

To those who spent the time setting up their weather, I apologize for the inconvenience.

I’m in the process of getting the location data repopulated so if it’s not up now, expect your location to be back by tomorrow. FYI…I’m adding in other locations (i.e. Europe and Australia) as well.

Colin Powell Response

When in England at a fairly large conference, Colin Powell was asked by the Archbishop of Canterbury if our plans for Iraq were just an example of empire building by George Bush.

He answered that, “Over the years, the United States has sent many of it’s fine young men and women into great peril to fight for freedom beyond our borders. The only ammount of land we have ever asked for in return is enough to bury those that did not return.”

It became very quiet in the room
